American Tending Breeds Association

About the ATBA

A Brief History . . .
The American Tending Breeds Association was founded in 1990 as a forum for learning and practicing the European style of sheep herding known as tending. Over the years we have expanded our membership to include all herding breeds and styles of herding. Our membership is open to anyone with the majority being located in the northeastern United States. The ATBA holds six AKC licensed test/trials a year (two on a weekend in April & two on a weekend in July & two on a weekend in October.) We hold match shows on the Fridays before the test/trial weekends for those who are not quite ready to trial or who want practice on the stock before the trial. We also hold a herding instinct test and two meeting/practice days a year. The ATBA is one of the few clubs in the country to offer ALL AKC courses at a single event.
